‘That Sugar Film’ – the talk of the town

I was back visiting Australia last month and all my friends were talking about this new movie – ‘That Sugar Film’ by Damon Gameau. The message was so shocking to them that most of them had immediately started a low sugar diet.

Now the movie is coming to the UK…

So what is the film about? You can read Damon Gameau’s article in The Telegraph (27 June 15) but in summary it follows him while he spent 60 days avoiding junk foods and instead stuck to products marketed as low fat and ‘healthy’. He had to consume 40 teaspoons of sugar per day which is the average for a western diet. The 40 teaspoons a day would be ‘hidden sugars’ found in foods like low fat yoghurt, cereals, muesli bars, juices, sports drinks and assorted condiments.

But far from improving his health and wellbeing, the results are terrifying regarding weight gain, liver disease, developing pre type 2 diabetes and noticing an enormous impact on moods and cognitive functions!

That sounds sensible…
