Self-Care = Emotional Wellbeing
When you think about self-care, you might think about bubble baths, manicures, and massages, and there is an entire industry dedicated to selling us products related to these things. However, nurturing your entire self includes caring for your emotions and inner life.
When it comes to emotional self-care, it can be difficult to envision what it might look like. And here are some examples for you:
- Make attempts to manage and reduce stress in your life
- Spend time with friends, family, and others who make you feel good about yourself
- It’s important to make time for fun and leisure, especially when you’re stressed
- Know when you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t be afraid to seek professional help
- Encourage and validate yourself by saying something affirming to yourself
There are many ways to care for yourself, and it will look different for each individual, but taking care of your personal emotional health can positively impact your ability to meet your needs. This is because our emotional health is intertwined with almost everything we do.
If we start to explore our emotional landscape; what they feel like, the behaviour we display, and the thoughts we have… then we can start to play with the idea of what emotions would serve us better? How do I really want to feel? What thoughts will allow me to feel that emotion? Can I notice and relabel the sensation I feel so I encapsulate a better emotion?
In choosing an emotion to serve you, can you have better emotional wellbeing?
Self-care for your emotional wellbeing is just as important as your physical wellbeing. Take a moment to observe the difference in your emotional wellbeing when you add at least one self-care activity into your daily routine.
You deserve to make yourself a priority!
