This helps to let go of the tension and pain due to stress, which could be preventing someone from falling asleep. 

During progressive muscle relaxation we are putting intense focus into tensing different parts of the body. We can work progressively up the body from the toes to the head.

You can go through this with your client in a session (listen to me go through it in the video above) and/or they could find someone talking though it for them to listen to in bed before sleep. Ensure your client resonates with the person delivering it.

It is in noticing the difference between the tension and letting go which causes the relaxation and our gateway into sleep.
