This is a suggested way of coaching someone who is sleeping poorly… I’ve called it ‘28 Days to Sleep Well’. It’s been presented as 4 sessions with a client in a 1:1 setting, however you could also run it as a group programme.
You may find as you work with someone through this programme, that you deviate from the outline, suggested practices and question as you focus into other areas more personal to your client.
Always build rapport, validate your clients experiences and coach them to find solutions.
Remember GROW… this is always useful as the backbone to creating sessions. What are your clients sleep goals? What is the reality of their situation and the reality of the goal(s) being set? What are their options? Which option are they willing to commit to?
Enquire into what has gone well and what needs work. It can take time for better sleep patterns to emerge and become consistent, ensure your client doesn’t become discouraged and reassure them that all steps they are taking towards sleeping better with consistency will pay off.
Worry over not sleeping well and the corresponding anxiety that they will never be able to sleep well does need to be addressed. Allow your client to explore changing the way they think about sleep, that going to sleep can be pleasurable and not a time to be filled with dread and remember coaching is actionable change so do check in with your client and that they are willing to make changes to their sleep patterns and behaviour. It is this motivation which will help them to find a solution.
NOTE: In the videos for the next lessons, it has been reported that the video screen goes blurry when I share my screen with the PDF handout, which could be due to your video player going into energy saving mode. If this happens, please check your video player settings to make sure the ‘quality’ is not ‘auto’ mode. It may be better to select a fixed quality to stop the video player going blurry by automatically changing to a lower quality.
Also please be aware there is a change in the video size, this is due to the sharing of my screen with the PDFs.
