About Lesson

As coaches we are NOT prescribers of medication.

This lesson is for reference so that we are aware of medication (sleeping tablets) available both prescribed and over the counter which can help sleep. Also it’s worth noting that some medication can affect sleep as a side effect, this is a conversation a client would need to have with their medical practitioner.

Also if the client is taking sleeping tables as prescribed to them, and they wish to reduce or stop taking them then this is a conversation for them to have with their doctor.

Many sleeping tablets can lead to dependence, which is why in the UK, GPs can be unwilling to prescribe them. Instead they may prescribe medicine to help with anxiety or depression if that is a cause of being unable to sleep.

Over the counter antihistamines, Diphenhydramine and doxylamine succinate can make people drowsy and are in non-prescription sleeping tablets.
