Sleep Well Coach Training
About Lesson

Most adults need between 7-9 hours. This can vary and there can be times when we need more due to illness. People do seem to think they need less sleep which is not true! There have been famous examples, eg Margaret Thatcher, proclaiming how they only needed 4 hours of sleep a night. However this is considered to be genetic and not something that can be trained.

Please ignore any claims for needing less sleep as we have seen in previous lessons it can have serious health and wellbeing implications.

Babies, young children and adolescents need more sleep than adults due to their needs of growing and developing.

According to a study from the insurance company Direct Line:

  • One in seven (14 per cent) Brits survive on dangerously low levels of sleep a night, under five hours.
  • Nearly three quarters (71 per cent) of UK adults do not have the recommended seven to nine hours’ sleep a night.
  • Over a third (34 per cent) of Brits believe they have physical or mental health problems linked to poor sleep.

It is, therefore, imperative that we encourage people to get enough sleep for their wellbeing.
